Inside village limits, a single-trunk non-exempt tree of at least 19 inches needs a permit: staff review from 19 through 24 inches, and Board review above 24 (Ordinance 25-001, adopted February 20, 2025). Trees under 19 inches, exempt species, dead trees, and multi-trunk trees are not an automated no-permit result, because the ordinance also requires a permit for any non-exempt tree. Checked November 6, 2026.
How to apply: Apply to the Village of San Leanna. Protected trees (19–24") are a staff permit; heritage trees (over 24") go to the Board of Aldermen. Questions: village@sanleannatx.com, 512-280-3898.
Boundary: Matched to SAN LEANNA FULL PURPOSE on the City of Austin Jurisdictions map (queried November 6, 2026). Village rules are not applied in the ETJ.
Texas law: cities cannot charge a tree mitigation fee for a tree under 10" at an existing one- or two-family home you live in (Local Gov't Code §212.905, HB 7, 2017). Since 2023, landowners can petition to leave a city's ETJ (SB 2038), so ETJ lines change; we read the live City of Austin jurisdiction map.
